A high school in Malaysia is holding their 7th annual talent show. All the students, their families, and the teachers involved in the talent show and their stories in [Talentime] show the dark side of Malaysian society and the complexity of their culture. However, the film does not forget to show the warmth between people through refreshing jokes and laughter.
Half-Malaysian and half-Caucasian Mellor, hearing impaired student, Mahesh, and Hafiz, an exemplary student who takes care of his mother who is fatally ill with a brain tumor, their lives fill the screen with the beautiful music that captivates the audience. Malaysian director, Yasmin Ahmad, who became world famous for her films like [Gubra] and [Mukshin], left this world this year leaving [Talentime] as her last film. It was nominated for ten awards at the 22nd Malaysia Film Festival and won three awards including Best Director and Best Screenplay. (Jay SON)

Yasmin AHMAD
Yasmin Ahmad is a graduate in Psychology from a British University. She works in advertising, an industry she has been in for the last twenty-five years. During those years, she started writing scripts and directing television commercials, which won her prizes both at home and abroad. She later used her newfound skills to make feature films. She has made five feature films and one documentary since.
